First appears: Act 1, Scene 2
Julia is Proteus's girlfriend in Verona. When he is sent away to Milan, she follows him disguised as a boy, calls herself Sebastian, and ends up employed as his servant delivering messages to Silvia on Proteus's behalf.
The position is agonising. She delivers a ring Proteus sent to Silvia, her own ring, which she recognises. She comments on it without revealing herself.
When everything resolves in Act 5, Proteus swings back to her instantly after Valentine forgives him. The play treats this as a happy ending. Whether she is happy is left to the audience.
